Abbingdon Music Research (AMR) Announces the Luna Series

Southport, UK–– Abbingdon Music Research (AMR) today announces the Luna Series - its latest generation of fully unconstrained audio instruments, conceived without commercial compromise and built to endure for decades. Comprising three exceptional components - Luna Ingenii DAC, the Luna Medii preamplifier, and the Luna Procellarum monoblock power amplifier - the Luna Series marks AMR’s definitive return to the ultra-luxury tier.

Designed in collaboration with John Curl - the legendary engineer behind the Vendetta Research SCP 2, the Mark Levinson JC-2, and the Grateful Dead’s Wall of Sound - the Luna Series brings together 7+ years of original research, world-first circuit architectures, and the most demanding materials selection in AMR’s history.

Production is strictly limited: no more than 176 sets of Luna Ingenii, 186 sets of Luna Medii and 148 sets of Luna Procellarum will ever be built - a direct consequence of component scarcity and AMR’s commitment to lifetime service and support for every owner.

KEY FEATURES OF THE LUNA SERIES

  • World-first 4-Quadrant Fully Balanced FET Amplifier (Procellarum): Four amplifiers’ worth of discrete circuitry per channel - the only amplifier of its kind in commercial existence, delivering symmetrical current sourcing and sinking across all load quadrants.
  • True 32bit Multi-Bit DAC Engine (Ingenii): 2×TDA1541A + 8×AD1862 with 700+ supporting components - 40× the circuit density of comparable high-end DACs - plus the proprietary 128-stage discrete Direct DSD ‘Stonehenge’ Engine.
  • Zero In-Line Element Volume Control (Medii): No potentiometer, no stepped attenuator, no volume IC. A wire with gain. A world-first topology requiring new mathematical modelling and bespoke noise-floor control techniques.
  • AirLock™ Power Architecture: Electrically isolated from the AC mains, with battery-like low-impedance energy delivery and active noise cancellation - 4× the component count of conventional power supplies.
  • Bit-Gravity™ Harmonic Weighting (Ingenii): User-adjustable bit-weighting between two multi-bit DACs, allowing the listener to shape the tonal character of digital playback at a circuit level - a feature found nowhere else in the industry.
  • Ultra-rare, ultra-precision components: Pure silver wiring (120× cost), Audio Note Silver Tantalum resistors (330×), custom Teflon capacitors (50×), Exicon lateral MOSFETs (15×), WBT NextGen silver connectors (50×), hand-matched NOS tubes throughout.
  • Artisanal, laboratory-grade assembly: Every unit is computer-matched and hand trimmed. Hours of senior-technician assembly per product. Annual output is limited not by marketing, but by human capability.

LUNA PROCELLARUM - THE WORLD’S FIRST 4 - QUADRANT FULLY BALANCED FET AMPLIFIER

The Luna Procellarum realises a topology that has been theorised but never achieved commercially: a fully balanced, four-quadrant FET design in which four complete amplifier circuits operate in concert for every single channel. The result is absolute symmetry of current sourcing and sinking - consistent performance across all load quadrants, significantly improved linearity with large bass signal levels, and the near-total elimination of crossover artefacts through FET symmetry.

Designed by John Curl - whose five-decade career spans the Grateful Dead’s Wall of Sound consoles, the Mark Levinson JC-2 preamplifier, the Vendetta Research SCP-2 phono stage, and Parasound’s Halo JC series - the Procellarum is the physical embodiment of his life’s work brought to commercial reality for the first time.

“AMR is one of the few companies I’ve worked with since 2019 that is genuinely prepared to push engineering as far as it can go — in architecture, in parts quality, and in execution. The Procellarum is the result of what can happen when those compromises are kept to an absolute minimum.”

- John Curl, Principal Designer, Luna Procellarum

LUNA INGENII - A REVOLUTION IN DIGITAL CONVERSION

The Luna Ingenii represents a complete rethinking of what a digital-to-analogue converter can be. Where conventional high-end DACs employ two chips and twenty supporting components, the Ingenii deploys 2×TDA1541A chips with over 400 components, 8×AD1862 chips with over 300 supporting components, and a 128-stage discrete Direct DSD engine using 32 chips and over 300 parts. The engineering density is not incremental - it is transformational.

True 32-bit Multi-Bit Architecture
By combining multiple New Old Stock multi-bit chipsets in a proprietary parallel array, the Ingenii achieves true 32-bit resolution with a linearity and noise floor that no single-chip or delta-sigma implementation can approach. This is not upsampling. It is genuine bit-perfect, 32-bit, multi-bit performance at every bit depth.

128-Stage Direct DSD ‘Stonehenge’ Engine
Standard DSD implementations use a single chip and fewer than ten components. The Stonehenge engine uses 32 chips and over 300 - a 128-stage discrete architecture with no commercial equivalent. The result is a DSD path of unmatched purity, timing precision, and dynamic integrity.

Bit-Gravity™ Harmonic Weighting
An AMR original, Bit-Gravity allows the listener to adjust the bit-weighting between the two different titan multi-bit chips (TDA1541A and AD1862) at the hardware level and in real-time - shaping the tonal character in a way that is physically real, not digitally processed.

“The Luna family represents our obsessive pursuit of preserving the beauty of recorded music. Years of research and thinking beyond convention have all been in service of a singular goal: preventing sonic degradation before it takes hold.”

- Collin Farch, Principal Designer, Luna Ingenii

LUNA MEDII - THE PURITY OF A WIRE WITH GAIN

The Luna Medii preamplifier is built around a single radical principle: that controlling level, drive, and system interaction must add nothing to the musical signal. Traditional attenuators - potentiometers, stepped resistor ladders, volume ICs - all introduce series elements into the signal path. The Medii eliminates them entirely.

Zero In-Line Element Volume Control
AMR’s Zero In-Line Element Volume Control is a gain-based system in which no component ever sits in series with the signal. The result is a preamplifier with the transparency of a straight wire and the control of a precision gain stage - a topology that required new mathematical modelling, new noise floor control strategies, and years of original research to realise.

Advanced NOS Valve Architecture
The Medii’s amplification stage is based around a hand-matched pair of NOS GE5670 valves. AMR firmly believes that valves are not only for “nostalgic colouration”, and when thoughtfully implemented, allow the Medii to remain sonically invisible whilst preserving the full timbre and dynamic expression of the musical signal.

ENGINEERING WITHOUT ECONOMIC CONSTRAINT

Every decision in the Luna Series is dictated by circuit theory, noise physics, and engineering purity - not by bill-of-materials targets. The cost structure that results diverges radically from conventional high-end audio.

Component count: Luna models contain the equivalent of multiple complete devices inside each unit - 40× the component density of typical high-end equipment.

Component cost: Silver wiring at 120× standard cost. Audio Note Silver Tantalum resistors at 330×. Custom Teflon capacitors at 50×. WBT NextGen silver connectors at 50×. Each choice addresses noise floor, linearity, dielectric behaviour, or thermal stability in ways that are measurable and audible.

R&D investment: More than seven years of original research underpin each world-first architecture. The Zero-Element Volume Control, the 4Q FET amplifier, the Stonehenge DSD engine, and the AirLock™ power supply are new engineering protected by AMR’s intellectual property.

Production: Each unit is hand-assembled by senior technicians, there is no production method that can automate this level of precision.
